2017. Chilean Ministry of Environment and Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS Chile) visited Costa Rica Forever environmental fund, with support from the Walton Family Foundation.

2018. A public-private working group was established at the request of the environmental organizations WWF, WCS Chile and Oceana and coordinated by Chilean Ministry of Environment to promote the creation of an environmental fund with a Marine Protected Areas Program. The Founding Group was formed among them.

​

 

2019 - 2020. With the support of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, an environmental fund feasibility study was carried out.

2020.

September. Conaf, Sernapesca and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) joined the Founding Group.

November. Work begins to project a Water and Basin Program.

December. Thanks to the support of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, the Marine Protected Areas Program is designed.

2021.

April. With IDB financing, work begins to design the environmental fund Fondo Naturaleza Chile.

September. Fondo Naturaleza Chile is constituted and the governance is made up of a provisional board made up of Bárbara Saavedra; Katleen Barclay; Francisca Tondreau; Egle Flores, Erik Heyl; Michael Grasty; David Silva.

December. The State of Chile commits financing for the implementation of Fondo Naturaleza Chile through a gloss in the 2022 Budget Law.

 

 

2022.

First resource transfer agreement according to the gloss in the 2022 Budget Law.

First resource transfer agreement from Ocean Kind for the implementation of the Marine Protected Areas Program.

Beginning of the design of the Basin and Water Program with IDB funds.

Chile Nature Fund incorporated into the Ministry of Finance's register of donees.

Fondo Naturaleza Chile obtains equivalency 501 c(3) U.S. NGO Source.

Fondo Naturaleza Chile is incorporated as a grantee of 1% for the Planet.

March. The final board of Fondo Naturaleza Chile is appointed.

April. Milestone launch of Chile Nature Fund.

October. Fondo Naturaleza Chile joins RedLAC as a member.

November. The first session of the advisory council is held.

November. Launch of the Marine Protected Areas Program within the framework of COP27 in Egypt.

June. Fondo Naturaleza Chile signs an agreement with Teck adding new financing for the conservation of biodiversity.
