
2017. The Ministry of the Environment and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS Chile) visited the Costa Rica Forever environmental fund, with support from the Walton Family Foundation.
2018. A public-private working group was established at the request of the environmental organizations WWF, WCS Chile, and Oceana, and coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment, to promote the creation of an environmental fund with a Marine Protected Areas Program. The Founding Group was formed among them.
2019-2020. Thanks to contributions channeled through WWF, a feasibility study for the environmental fund was carried out.
2020.
September. CONAF (National Forestry Corporation), SERNAPESCA (National Fisheries Service), and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) joined the Founding Group.
November. Work began on developing a Water and Watersheds Program.
December. Thanks to contributions channeled through WWF and WCS, the Marine Protected Areas Program is designed.
2021.
April. With IDB funding, work begins on designing the environmental fund, Fondo Naturaleza Chile (Chile Nature Fund).
September. Fondo Naturaleza Chile - Chile Nature Fund is established, and its governance is comprised of a provisional board of directors made up of Bárbara Saavedra, Katleen Barclay, Francisca Tondreau, Eglé Flores, Erik Heyl, Michael Grasty, and David Silva.
December. The State of Chile commits funding for the implementation of Fondo Naturaleza Chile through a provision in the 2022 Budget Law.

March. Carolina Schmidt Zaldívar assumes the Presidency of the Board of Directors of Fondo Naturaleza Chile - Chile Nature Fund.
April. Fondo Naturaleza Chile - Chile Nature Fund holds an in-person meeting with the Council and Board of Directors in San Francisco de Lagunillas and Quillayal.
